Yangtze river
The Yangtze River is one of the most important resources of China. Yangtse River, Yangzi River, Yangtze Kiang are all different ways of saying the same in English. In modern China, the river’s name is Chang Jiang. All names are derived from Yangzi Jiang, which, in the Sui Dynasty, was the Chinese name for the river in its lower reaches, specifically, the stretch between Yangzhou and Zhenjiang, passing through Taizhou. The name carried through time and was heard by early missionaries and traders, hence the English version Yangtze. In Chinese, Yangzi Jiang is considered a historical and poetic name for the river.
